Mangalayatan University today conferred Honoris Causa to 11 eminent persons for their exemplary contribution in promoting social values, defence research, environment, education and sports. These eminent persons include renowned enviromentalist Dr. Rajendra Pachauri, Dr. Tessy Thomas, Ms. Saina Nehwal, Marry Kom and Gagan Narang. Shri Mulayam Singh Yadav, Former Defence Minister and Chief Guest of the 4th Ceremony Convocation urged professionals to focus on education and health services. Shri Yadav highlighted the role of private sector in promoting higher education. ‘Aligarh Muslim University and Banaras Hindu University established by the individual efforts. We need more initiative in this direction’, he added. He highlighted the role of London Olympic Medalists and offered them to join politics. ‘If Saina Nehwal proposed to contest election from Aligarh what will happen?he asked to the gathering. Students gave their answers with claps. He urged students to participate in sports activities along with study. ‘A player never fails, you can learn every aspect of life through games’, he said. Shri Yadav disclosed that Akehilesh Government got information that some elements are trying to disturb the harmony of the state. Dr. Tessy Thomas, Project Director, Agni-V asked students to learn continuously and never give up their dreams and aspirations. ‘Our (DRDO) mission is to provide India world class technology. It is possible only through quality education’, she said. Ms. Saina Nehwal, Badminton Player thanked Mangalayatan University for conferring Honoris Causa. ‘It has more worth than Olympic medal. My father always dreamt that I should complete my education but preparation for Olympic never permitted me. Now Mangalayatan University fulfilled this dream’, cheered Nehwal said. Shri Sushil Kumar and Yogeshwar Dutt, both Wrestlers said that Mangalayatan University turned them from Khiladi to Doctor. Shri Gagan Narang and Vijay Kumar, both Shooters also expressed their gratitude for conferring Honoris Causa to them. Ms. Marry Kom, Boxer said that this is the great honor for all of us. Ms. Salma Ansari, Noted Social Worker and Dr. V.K. Sarswat, Director General, DRDO conferred Honoris Causa in their absence. Shri Pawan Jain, Chairman, Board of Governors praised the efforts of Honoris Causa recipients. ‘India has proud on their achievements. All are infusing new levels of energy in young Indians. They became youth icons for the Indians. Students should learn from them to keep moving and excel in every walk of life despite hurdles’, he added. He offered Shri Yadav to establish a Sports Academy in Aligarh. Earlier Shri Achyutanand Mishra, Visitor introduced Chief Guest and Honoris Causa recipients. He congratulated toppers for their achievement and hoped that they will continue their efforts towards excelling in life. Prof. S.C. Jain, Vice-Chancellor said that presence of charismatic political leader as Chief Guest, a bevy of eminent social workers and scientists, one Padamvibhushan, two Padmabhushan and four Padmashri awardees and six Olympic medal winners at this Ceremony makes it a unique and unparalleled event. University conferred 715 Graduates and Post Graduate degrees to students. It includes three Ph.D. and 28 M.Phil. degrees. Toppers got Vice Chancellor’s Gold and Silver medals.
